Volunteer Football Cage Workers

Youth For Christ Calderdale has the opportunity to run the football cage in a number of locations in Calderdale, but in order to do this, we need the help of volunteers. Could you give an afternoon once every few weeks to help us out? We are looking for volunteers for the following roles. Training will be given where required.

Towers

No, not tall buildings but people who can tow things - more specifically the football cage. You will need to be an experienced driver with a vehicle that is equipped for towing and capable of towing a 1.1 tonne braked trailer.

Builders and dismantlers

To build the football cage once it has been towed to the site, and dismantle and pack it away once the session has finished. You will need to be physically fit and have reasonably good spatial awareness.

Referees

Do you think you have what it takes to be a referee and run a game? You will need to be decisive and firm but fair. You will need to be able to talk to young people to explain the rules and your decisions. Games last for 2 minutes and are fairly fast and furious, so you will need to have good powers of concentration.

Conversationalists

Can you talk to young people? When running the football cage, we always need people who can simply talk to the people who are waiting for a game or simply hanging around. We need people who can engage young people who might be on the periphery and hesitate about joining in, or to talk to people who have no intention of joining in but want to see what's going on.

If you are interested in any of the above roles, then please contact Bob in the first instance at bob@yfccalderdale.org.uk
